We are a group of keen anglers who provide a friendly and supportive club environment for both experienced flyfishers and newbies. So whether you are a novice who has yet to catch their first trout on the fly or an accomplished fisher with a lifetime of experience, the Canterbury Fly Fishing Club has something to offer you.
We usually meet on the first Tuesday of each month (no meeting in January) at 7:00pm at Burnside Bowls Club, 330 Avonhead Road, Christchurch. Prospective members or those interested in finding out more about the club are welcome to attend.
Each month we produce a newsletter called Fish Tales, which contains details of the coming months meeting, information on upcoming trips, speakers coming to the club, members photos and fishing tales and details of key club contacts.
During the year a number of monthly club trips are organized by the club committee, these be either weekend or just day trips.
We have our major club trip to Twizel each year, which is held over the Canterbury Show Weekend. This trip is specifically to match experienced anglers with those that are less experienced or new to the area and fly fishing.
Monthly and day trips are a great way to enjoy not only fantastic fishing locations but also the social aspect with like minded folk.
At our club nights we regularly have evenings that are devoted to increasing knowledge and skills. This takes the form of around 6 different “knowledge Stations”. We also occasionally run a 2 day “Learn to Fly Fish” school aimed at beginners and novice angles, and have recently started mentoring days when you can arrange to go with one of our experienced angles for a day on the water. We also run a fly casting clinic on summer evenings before our meeting and once a year we have a casting day, which is run by2 of the clubs FFF certified casting instructors.
Don’t miss out! Keep track of when the next club meeting, fly fishing trip, casting lession or fly tying seminar is happening.
Our monthly newsletter “Fish Tales” contains all details of the coming months meeting, information on upcoming trips, speakers coming to the club and much more.
Come along to one of our club nights, meet the members and if you like what you see and hear you can join up.
“I was impressed by the number of members at the club nights; there are good raffle prizes.
The knowledge tables are really good, as is the quality of speakers. The summer casting practice before meetings is really useful. Very impressed by the club’s organization and which exceeded my expectations.”
“I’ve been a club member for over 20 years and in that time its has provided me not only with some excellent training and upskilling but more importantly a real sense of belonging and some lifelong fishing buddies.”
“Joining as a newbie, having been introduced to fly fishing over a weekend held by ‘Casting for Recovery’, I’ve found the Club to be superb. Friendly, knowledgeable, and inclusive, with plenty of opportunities, on club nights, workshops and trips to learn and improve the many intricacies of fly fishing.”
