Joining as a newbie, having been introduced to fly fishing over a weekend held by ‘Casting for Recovery’, I’ve found the Club to be superb. Friendly, knowledgeable, and inclusive, with plenty of opportunities, on club nights, workshops and trips to learn and improve the many intricacies of fly fishing.
On 4th December 1985 35 dedicated fly fisherman held the first meeting of the Canterbury Fly Fishing Club, then on 1st September 1998 an application for incorporation was made and on 9th September 1998 the Canterbury Fly Fishing Club was incorporated.
Some of the main objectives for the club were:
Since that time the club has survived such events as the GFC, the Christchurch earthquakes and COVID19. And today we have a growing membership.
To encourage and promote the sport of fly fishing.
To foster and encourage an appreciation of rivers, streams, and lakes and their environs, and to encourage the provision of open access to these waters for recreational angling.
Developing the knowledge and skills of our members, whether new or experienced, to become safe, proficient fly fishing anglers.
Encouraging camaraderie, and being welcoming to anyone who is interested in, or wants to learn about fly fishing. Advocating for inclusivity and diversity within the sport. Respecting our environment and advocating for sustainable fishing practices
Our team is made up of anglers who are passionate about sharing the sport and supporting the community of fly fishing. Please get in touch if you have any questions.
